Throughout the body, degenerative changes can be seen in other organs and systems.  Many health conditions not normally considered related to “back problems”, can often be traced back to nervous system impairment by the spine.

While often seen in the aged, this degenerative condition is not part of the normal aging process.  This type of spinal decay is the result of spinal problems which have been ignored or neglected for many years.

Stages of Chiropractic Care

Which type of care fits your goals?

There are three types or stages of chiropractic care.  How long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is always up to you.

Most patients start with Initial Intensive Care.  The first thing most new patients want is to feel better.  So, in the beginning, visits are usually frequent.  Your chiropractic adjustments may be combined with other procedures to help relieve your symptoms.  Depending upon your age, condition, and lifestyle, repeated visits over weeks or months may be needed to reduce your symptoms.

With your ache or pain reduced, the goal of Rehabilitative Care is for more complete healing to occur.  Underlying muscle and soft tissue damage can remain, even after you feel better.  At this stage, visit frequency is often reduced. You may be urged to supplement your care with exercises, dietary changes, or other self-care procedures.  Without complete healing, discontinuing care now can set the stage for a relapse.

After the recovery of your original problem, Regular Chiropractic “Checkups” can help preserve your progress.  Periodic visits can help catch little problems before they become major concerns.  Wellness-minded adults and their children choose this type of care to look and feel their best.  Like other preventive measures, a chiropractic lifestyle can save time and money by helping you stay well.

Chiropractic Care for Children

little hand on grown up handsChildren naturally enjoy their chiropractic adjustments.

The birth process may be one of the most traumatic events of our lives. The resulting irritation to the nervous system can be the cause of many newborn health complaints.  Colic, unexplained crying, poor appetite, breathing problems, and allergic reactions can often be traced to nervous system dysfunction caused by a malfunctioning spine.

Head support, followed by crawling, and a baby’s first few steps should be followed by chiropractic checkups.  If neglected, the bumps and falls during this period of rapid growth may lead to serious spinal deformities later in life.  This can set the stage for scoliosis, “growing pains”, and a weakened immune system response.

Chiropractic adjusting techniques are modified to fit a child’s size, weight, and unique spinal problem.  Parents often report that their children seem healthier than other kids their age. Many spinal problems seen in adults begin in childhood.  Proper spinal hygiene is an important key to better health.

Do you know a child who could benefit from chiropractic care? Dr. Hunziker can help them.

Health begins before birth.

Pregnant ladies can benefit from regular chiropractic care.Chiropractic care can be quite helpful during all stages of pregnancy. Children benefit from chiropractic care before they are born, by having a mother who receives prenatal chiropractic checkups. A healthy diet, proper exercise, a stress-free environment, and a chiropractic lifestyle help prepare for a happy, healthy baby.

This period of rapid development, hormonal changes, the laxity of connective ligaments, and shifting of weight-bearing structures, may cause many pregnant women to experience low back pain. Regular chiropractic care can be very helpful. Modified approaches can make chiropractic adjustments for pregnant moms easy and comfortable.  Besides helping to relieve the discomfort many expectant mothers experience, chiropractic care helps normalize nervous system function.  This is an important component of overall good health.

The benefits of chiropractic care may also be noticed during delivery.  Many chiropractic patients report that their deliveries were faster and more comfortable than delivers previous to chiropractic care! Your Doctor of Chiropractic will take special precautions with you during your pregnancy. Modifications to the table or adjusting techniques are made during each stage of pregnancy.  Take good care of yourself and your baby with regular chiropractic checkups.

Women who give up smoking, eat healthy foods, and avoid alcohol during pregnancies are to be congratulated.  Those receiving prenatal chiropractic checkups, demonstrate even more concern for their still developing babies.

New moms and their babies can benefit from chiropractic care, too.  Continue those regular chiropractic checkups after baby is born, to help mother recover from effects of pregnancy and to help the baby for healthier life.
