Try Chiropractic Care.
The best way to learn about chiropractic is to try it.
Many people have been involved in a car accident some time ago and never received treatment. Often when they come to see me months later they are surprised to learn that their pain is most likely related to the trauma from their accident.
It is very important to get checked out by a chiropractor after any falls or accidents. Pain is not a good indicator that something is wrong. The body uses pain as a warning signal but like any warning device the body will find someway to cope or it will send you to the emergency room.
Most people think if they can walk and take pain killers then the problem will eventually go away. This is dangerous. The body will adapt by turning off information to certain areas and making other areas adapt to do their job. This is how we form trigger points that eventually can turn into fibromyalgia.
The body will also add bone to weakened joints causing osteoarthritis. Our posture also changes which eventually leads to more pain.
Being in an accident even if it is minor is like driving on unbalanced tires. I didn’t know I was supposed to rotate my tires every 6000 miles and recently I had to replace them sooner than normal.
You can’t replace your spine.

What is Wellness Chiropractic?
If you had to choose between losing your teeth or your spine, which would you choose?
This seems like a simple question. You can live without your teeth but you would be in pretty lousy shape without a spine…at least for the few seconds you were still living. My question, then, is why do we make sure to have our teeth checked every six months but neglect to do the same for our spines?
Dentists have done a wonderful job over the years of informing the public of the benefits of regular dental checkups and I think most people understand that they should see a dentist on a regular basis, even if there’s nothing “wrong”. Perhaps chiropractors have dropped the ball when it comes to explaining wellness care, but its benefits are undeniable.
Nearly every major issue I see in the office is a result of a process that has been building up slowly over time. In other words, big things do not usually just happen to your body. Many small things happen over time and left unchecked can lead to big things. The catch is that we do not always feel the small things when they happen. Regular chiropractic adjustments will help your body to resolve any small issues before they become big (and debilitating) and will strengthen your body so it is better able to deal with our daily stresses.
Your spine is your lifeline. It deserves your attention. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Additional Benefits of Natural, Drugless Chiropractic Care
Additional Benefits of Natural, Drugless Chiropractic Care
(More than Relief of Headaches and Low Back Pain!)
Far too many people still believe that chiropractic care isn’t necessary unless they’re suffering excruciating headache or low back pain. The millions who do receive regular adjustments and have a natural, healthy lifestyle know that chiropractic can resolve their back pain, and more and more may also be learning about the potential non-musculoskeletal benefits.
Chiro Benefits Graph

Typical observations that chiropractors see in their patients include:
- Better athletic performance
- Faster, more complete recovery from injuries
- Better nervous system function – which controls every aspect of your body
- Better immune system function – fight off disease naturally
- Healthier moms – easier pregnancy and delivery
- Healthier babies – less in-utero constraint and subsequent scoliosis
- Healthier kids – less ear infections, asthma, bed-wetting, etc.
- Healthier adults – more energy and productivity
- Healthier seniors – better balance, less likelihood of falling that often causes hip fracture
- Overall natural vitality
The beneficial effects of chiropractic adjustment of the spine were demonstrated in a recent study in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. Twenty consecutive patients from each of 87 Swedish chiropractor’s offices (1,504 total patients) completed questionnaires within two weeks of previous treatment. The questionnaires documented numerous reported improvements in non-musculoskeletal symptoms, including:
- Easier to breathe (98 patients),
- Improved digestive function (92 patients),
- Clearer/better/sharper vision (49 patients),
- Improved circulation (34 patients),
- Less ringing in the ears (10 patients),
- Acne/eczema better (8 patients),
- Dysmennorhea (painful menstruation) better (7 patients), and
- Asthma/allergies improved (6 patients).
The number of spinal areas adjusted was also related to the number of positive reactions. Fifteen percent of patients reported positive reactions after having a single area adjusted; 35% of patients reported positive reactions after having four areas adjusted. Overall, 23% of chiropractic patients reported experiencing positive changes in symptoms that were not musculoskeletal in nature.
Have you experienced non-musculoskeletal benefits following chiropractic care, and if so, have you told your doctor of chiropractic? Always report any reactions (good or bad) you experience during or following an adjustment.

Stress in Troubling Times
Stress is all over us these days. As Americans, it is our worst enemy and now it’s worse than ever. We tend to cope with stress by eating more foods that are fried or high in carbs for comfort. In these times, we need more effective stress reduction tools.
This is a great time to exercise more, read more, meditate or pray more. These things are all free and constructive coping strategies.
Many of you are watching your retirement or savings shrink in the stock market. I am not a financial analyst, but they all say it will come back, given enough time. Historically, this is true.
What I can weigh in on, with no uncertainty, is that if you don’t take care of your health, you may not make it to retirement, or you may not feel well enough to enjoy it. Our adrenal glands are the first system to react to stress. We produce more epinephrine (commonly called adrenaline) and cortisol, which puts the body in a heightened state of alert and defense. This is great if we are running away from trouble or find ourselves in a physical fight, however the excess energy the body taps into to do this comes from our digestive and immune systems. Over the short term, we quickly recover from the stress response, but if it is prolonged then we can start having digestive problems, sleep problems, infections, slowed metabolism, and anxiety attacks among other things. So, if you are still watching the news and the stock market, stop!
- Taking supplements like vitamin C or DSF (Nutriwest) can help the adrenals recover.
- Exercise can help rid your body of excess epinephrine; meditation and prayer can change your brain waves so your whole body relaxes.
- Rest and a healthy diet can recharge the immune system.
- Finally, a chiropractic session is a great way to release stress from the body and mind, and create more peace.

Why Children Need Chiropractic
As the father of a 4 year old daughter I know first hand how much chiropractic care can help children. I have witnessed my daughter recover from ear infections, back pain, wrist pain, knee pain, headaches, digestive problems, you name it…at warp speed, from chiropractic adjustments.
After-all, how often do kids fall down every day as they run around and play?
It’s makes sense that kids would respond quick to chiropractic adjustments. Things just heal faster when you’re a kid. However…what about the misalignments in the spine (subluxations) that don’t heal? What if your child does not visit a chiropractor on a regular basis like they should (in my opinion)?
Well…this is a problem. It is thought that most of the problems that adults present with at a chiropractors office are from subluxations that were left undetected and uncorrected from childhood.
Think about it…How many times did you fall learning how to walk, ride a bike, or at gymnastics?
Do you think maybe something could have been knocked out of position? Do you think it would just go back into position by itself? Actually, the body is always going to make sure all of it’s parts are where they are supposed to be. But sometimes it just needs a little help…help from a chiropractor.
Hey…the beauty of it is that chiropractors do not put anything into the body. We do not remove anything from the body. Chiropractors offer the body a very gentle force (especially with children) that the body can use to help restore the subluxation. Does this hurt? NO….not usually.
Do children look forward to chiropractic adjustments? Yes…after the first few sessions. You may have to drag them down to the chiropractor at first…and they may need to watch you get a chiropractic adjustment before they get theirs…and they may even cry a little…but it doesn’t hurt…and it’s very safe.
Then…after your child gets used to their chiropractic adjustments…look-out…they will run to the treatment table, and they will want to get adjusted first.
Don’t you think it makes sense to ensure that the spine is in it’s proper alignment during the growth spurts? Heck…if something is out…and lots of times there are no symptoms…and it stays that way as your child grows…it could rear it’s ugly head later on in life.
It’s sure a lot easier to stay healthy than it is to get healthy.
If you have children and they have never had a chiropractic examination, maybe now is the time.
Oh, I did not even mention the damaging effects of video games, backpacks, and computers have on children’s posture. Your chiropractor can help with this too

The Unique Benefits of Chiropractic Care
Of all the aches your body suffers from, perhaps none of them are as aggravating and frustrating as back and shoulder pains, which can often make the rest of your day long and frustrating.
Rather than trying to simply dull the pain with pain relievers, turning to a highly-trained, experienced chiropractor can make all of the difference. Here are a few reasons why you should consider a chiropractor for back, shoulder, and other bodily pains.
Often times, the aches you suffer are often symptomatic of deeper set problems that simple stretching or massages will not be able to handle. Chiropractors are trained in deep, thorough spinal manipulation and alignments that will help unlock the stress and tension built up in your muscles across your back, allowing your body to heal itself as it returns to its normal position.
Sciatica is one example of why a chiropractor can be extremely beneficial. This painful twinge, often located in the legs or lower back, is not a health problem in and of itself, but the symptom of a protruding or off-centered disc in the spinal column that is putting pressure on the sciatic nerves. Massaging the area of the pain or taking pain killers will not ultimately relieve the problem, but a chiropractor can help fix that problem directly by aligning the spinal column once more.
Spinal manipulation can also help relieve other physical pains that your body suffers, from your feet to migraine headaches. Because your nervous system revolves around that spinal column, treating any issues in your back can help you deal with other areas in your body that might be hurting. To learn more, speak with a chiropractor in your area about how they can help you.

Chiropractic Treats More Than Just Back Pain
Many people are familiar with the benefits of chiropractic in treating back and neck pain, but many are unaware that chiropractors can also help alleviate other maladies and disorders that are both physical and psychological.
Chiropractic is an increasingly popular field of medicine that helps a variety of people who have back and neck problems. Generally speaking, chiropractic is the study and diagnosis of disorders in the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine and its surrounding muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Most people are familiar with chiropractic care as it deals with back injuries caused by accident or illness, back and neck pain, and headaches. But chiropractic has been proven to help alleviate and treat a variety of other maladies as well.
Aside from ailments directly related to the spine and skeleton, some chiropractors also offer services that have been known to help alleviate disorders such as ADD and ADHD, autism, and depression. Other ailments such as allergies and asthma can also be treated and alleviated through chiropractic. And chiropractors can even help those who suffer from bowel irregularities, constant fatigue, dizziness, or fibromyalgia.
Many chiropractors believe that the health of the musculoskeletal system is directly related to the health of other parts of the body as well as a person’s psychological health and sense of well being. And scientific studies have proven that when the spine, skeleton, and related soft tissues and nerves are well aligned and otherwise healthy, people usually experience fewer overall health problems. Chiropractors can use their skills and expertise to do more than help patients with back problems. Chiropractic can help alleviate the pain associated will variety of maladies and illnesses and help people on the road to recovery.

NFL Wide Receiver Jerry Rice Healthy Secrets
Former NFL Wide Receiver Jerry Rice Reveals Secrets to Long, Healthy Career
(Las Vegas) — Legendary NFL wide-receiver and three-time Super Bowl champ Jerry Rice scored a touchdown among attendees at Parker Seminars Las Vegas — the world’s largest chiropractic seminar — by sharing all the ways he is being a champion for chiropractic. He was joined onstage by fellow chiropractic supporter Linda Cohn, veteran sportscaster and one of the first women to report for ESPN. Both Rice and Cohn are spokespeople for the Foundation for Chiropractic, an organization dedicated to generating positive press for the chiropractic profession, and traveled to Parker Seminars to encourage chiropractors and their assistants to continue delivering natural, quality health care to patients around the globe.
Thinking back to his football career, Rice credits his success on the field largely in part to chiropractic care. “If I had everything in alignment, I knew I could play my best football,” said Rice. His training routine included twice-weekly chiropractic adjustments which helped his body recover from all the hard hits and countless tackles. Because Rice firmly believed in the benefits of chiropractic, his teammates began to favor this natural care over the medications that trainers traditionally give. “I wanted to set the standard within football,” said Rice. “I knew if chiropractic helped me put up outstanding numbers, it could help my teammates do the same.”

And Rice’s accomplishments are indeed a testament to chiropractic: he was twice named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year, won three Super Bowls, and still holds nearly every record as a receiver. He retired as the league’s career receiving leader. Rice was recently announced as a 2010 NFL Hall of Fame candidate.
The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (FCP) made its own version of a “Hall of Fame” induction by presenting Rice with a medal for his commitment to chiropractic. “The Foundation for Chiropractic is getting the word out there, and [being a spokesperson] is a way for me to give back,” said Rice. “Chiropractic made football great for me. I was at my best and was always at 100 percent.”

High Blood Pressure Research Study
Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research Begins Patient Recruiting for a Study on Chiropractic and High Blood Pressure
Researchers at the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research (PCCR) clinic facility, 741 Brady St., Davenport, on the campus of Palmer College of Chiropractic, are looking for 165 people in the Quad Cities with hypertension, or high blood pressure, to participate in a clinical research study with the potential for significant impact on the treatment of hypertension. Patient recruitment began in late November. Participants must have high blood pressure and be between 21 and 75 years of age.
The PCCR is the largest institutional chiropractic research effort in the world, promoting excellence and leadership in scientific research. In addition to research faculty, staff and fellows working in a state-of-the-art facility on Palmer’s Davenport Campus, the Center also utilizes the resources of Palmer’s two branch campuses – in San Jose, Calif., and Port Orange, Fla. – and collaborators at other institutions in its renowned chiropractic research efforts.
The PCCR has the largest budget for research in a chiropractic college, supplemented increasingly by grants from outside sources such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. These funds, totaling nearly $30 million in the past 10 years, have been instrumental in expanding PCCR programs in research education, clinical science, translational research, experimental biomechanics, neurosciences and health services and policy research.
The new collaborative study on hypertension, called Chiropractic for Hypertension in Patients (CHiP), involves the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami, Fla., and Trinity at Terrace Park Family Practice, Bettendorf, Iowa. It is one of three projects that are part of a four-year, $2.8 million grant to the PCCR from the NIH National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. This grant was awarded to Principal Investigator and Vice Chancellor for Research and Health Policy Christine Goertz, D.C., Ph.D., in 2008 to establish a multidisciplinary Developmental Center for Clinical and Translational Science in Chiropractic.
CHiP will be directed by project co-leaders Dr. Christine Goertz from Palmer and Gervasio Lamas, M.D., a cardiovascular scientist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami who is known for his expertise in the conduct of large, complex, multi-site clinical trials. In addition, Joseph Bergstrom, D.O., director of medical education, Trinity Terrace Park family practice residency program, will be performing the blood pressure screenings and physical examinations for eligibility. Quad-City cardiologist Michael Giudici, M.D., FACP, FACC, FHRS, serves on the study’s Data and Safety Monitoring Committee.
“More than 50 million Americans suffer from high blood pressure, making it the most commonly diagnosed disease in the United States,” said Dr. Goertz. “Although many medical treatments for diagnosed hypertension are available, only about 30% of patients achieve blood pressure goals. Many patients report that they are unable to tolerate medication side effects and find it difficult to sustain significant lifestyle changes. Thus, a non-pharmacological therapy that lowers blood pressure could become an attractive option to many patients and their physicians.”
“The concept that manipulation of the upper cervical spine could reduce blood pressure is both novel and appealing at the same time” said Dr. Lamas. “It is novel because of its originality of thought, and because it is backed up by preliminary data. It is appealing because any treatment for high blood pressure that does not expose patients to drugs and their side effects should be investigated. I really look forward to assisting with the study and seeing the results.”
“This should be an interesting trial,” added Dr. Giudici. “Work to date has shown that blood pressure responds to other non-pharmacologic interventions such as diet, weight loss, exercise, stress reduction and yoga. There is also some interesting early data on blood pressure response to slowing respiratory rate. Palmer has put together an impressive team of researchers and the infrastructure needed to perform this and other studies.”
Potential participants in the study will be examined at the PCCR clinic and Trinity Terrace Park Family Practice Clinic to determine whether they qualify for the study. If so, they will be randomly assigned to one of three different upper cervical treatment groups, all of which will receive chiropractic care at the Palmer Research Clinic for eight weeks. Patients will have their blood pressure monitored on a regular basis while participating in the study. All examinations and treatment are provided at no charge to the patient.
Anyone interested in participating in the study should contact the PCCR clinic facility at (563) 884-5188.

America’s Favorite Healthcare
From Yahoo News, an article titled, “Patient Empowerment Drives Healthcare Changes.”
According to the article, “the patient empowerment movement” is changing healthcare and its effects are being felt nationwide.
The article points out that when there is a “4% unemployment economy” and employees are not happy with the healthcare options given by their employers, the employer had better pay attention.
The article suggests that employers give money directly to the employee to allow them the freedom to choose their own healthcare providers and insurance.
According to the article, Dr. David M. Eisenberg, director for alternative medicine research and education at Harvard Medical Center stated that,
“In 1997, Americans spent more than $30 billion on alternative therapies like chiropractic, herb supplements, massage and acupuncture–most of it out of pocket.”
Dr. Eisenberg further stated that, “Each year, patients make nearly 200 million more visits to complementary providers than primary care physicians in the US” according to the article.
It is important to note that of those 200 million more visits, the majority were made to chiropractic offices making chiropractic the #1 choice for healthcare in the US.
Chiropractors have been educating the public for years and have created more “patient empowerment” than any other healthcare profession in the world.
Through chiropractic, the world has learned that the kingdom of health lies within. Just yesterday, a person (non DC) at a business gathering told me they had just been to their chiropractor that day. The person then said to me, “isn’t innate intelligence great?” Yes it is I commented, yes it is.
